Alabama Chapter – Hearts Serving Tomorrow Today
We are just days away from the Alabama Kidney Foundation’s 2022 walk. The AT&T Pioneers-Birmingham Life Member Club did our prep work today for our “Goodie Bags for Chronic Kidney Disease Patients”, with help from Brad Cary, the AKF Central Alabama Regional Director. The walk starts at 8:30 a.m. August 13th at the Veterans Park (4800 ValleyDale Rd) and we are hoping to see y’all there. Be sure to stop by our team’s tent.

The Indian River Mixed Club participated in Make A Difference Day, which fell on the 301st day of the year, by collecting 301 food items to deliver to the local food bank.

They may not be the largest club, but that doesn’t stop the Indian River Club from doing big things. Recently they participated in a park clean-up for Keep Brevard Beautiful/ Adopt a Shore Program.Inthe photo are Bill Rohan, Judy Rohan, Al Dowd and Nancy Dowd.

Broward and South Florida Councils received the Ronald McDonald House 2017 Company Volunteer Award. The Pioneers have been supporting the organization for the past 13 years. The councils have participated in the Fort Lauderdale Ronald McDonald’s Adopt-A-Meal program, providing dinner monthly for clients staying at the house.
The Pioneers also:
- Collect pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House’s pop top program;
- Provide items listed on the house’s Wish List, such as paper goods, toiletries, etc.;
- Provide children staying at the Ronald McDonald House with Christmas gifts in December; and
- Donate books, puzzles, DVD’s and games for the media room at the Ronald McDonald House.
Chapter Receives Champion for Children Award
Florida Pioneers and AT&T were awarded the Champions for Children Award from ChildNet, Inc. This marked the first time ChildNet ever presented the award to an organization and not an individual. The Pioneers have supported the organization through mentoring students using the company’s Aspire Skills to Go classes, presenting graduating foster kids with computers and providing other support. AT&T has also supported the organization through its AT&T Aspire program. It recently awarded ChildNet a $500,000 contribution to support its the programs students.

South Florida Council at Ronald McDonald House

Broward Council Delivers
Working with the state chapter the Broward Council was able to deliver three carloads of household goods to Mission United in Fort Lauderdale. The group, part of Broward County United Way, helps homeless veterans. The Pioneers’ donation will enable the organization to provide homeless vets with everything needed to get their household stocked.

The Florida Chapter collected and sorted household items for Mission United, which is a veteran’s program in Broward County. The initiative provides returning veterans with employment services, legal assistance, education, financial services, health, housing support and mentorship. The Pioneers contributed household items to help stock the homes of returning veterans.
Mission United was also a recent recipient of a $5,000 AT&T Cares Grant.
